چکیده
The trial has been carried out at the Departments of Paeditric at Holbaek Hospital, Kolding Hospital, Aarhus University Hospital at Skejby, and at Hans Christian Andersen Children’s Hospital at Odense University Hospital in Odense, Denmark. The present work was conducted during an employment as a research assistant at The Paediatric Research Unit at Hans Christian Andersen Children’s Hospital, Odense University Hospital, Denmark, and the Institute of Clinical Research, Faculty of Health Sciences, University of Southern Denmark from 2007 to 2010.

Nutrition of preterm infants after discharge.
The fundamental principle underlying nutritional support is that intake meets needs thereby ensuring the best outcome, which, in the case of the preterm infant, is optimal growth and development. Achieving this goal is problematic. Most, if not all, very-low-birth-weight infants (VLBWI) are undernourished and under-grown when they are first discharged from the hospital. This has important impli...

A clear relationship exists between undernutrition, poorer growth and poor development in term and preterm infants. However, preterm infants are at greater risk than term infants. Undernutrition is more common and 'programmed' growth rates are almost six times faster. Thus, even short periods of nutritional deprivation may have significant effects. Recent advances have led to an improvement in ...
متن کاملEarly discharge study for premature infants: singapore general hospital.
INTRODUCTION At Singapore General Hospital, approximately 240 infants of the 1500 deliveries per annum are delivered preterm, many of very low birth weight-median of 1210 g-often have extended hospital stays, even after they are declared medically fit. METHODS To better understand the discharge patterns of the preterm infants in the department, a team of two neonatologists and two nurses perf...
متن کاملCalcium and vitamin d requirements of enterally fed preterm infants.
Bone health is a critical concern in managing preterm infants. Key nutrients of importance are calcium, vitamin D, and phosphorus. Although human milk is critical for the health of preterm infants, it is low in these nutrients relative to the needs of the infants during growth. Strategies should be in place to fortify human milk for preterm infants with birth weight <1800 to 2000 g and to ensur...
متن کاملImplementation of a Nutrition Program Reduced Post-Discharge Growth Restriction in Thai Very Low Birth Weight Preterm Infants
Very low birth weight (VLBW) preterm infants are vulnerable to growth restriction after discharge due to cumulative protein and energy deficits during their hospital stay and early post-discharge period. The current study evaluated the effectiveness of the preterm infant, post-discharge nutrition (PIN) program to reduce post-discharge growth restriction in Thai VLBW preterm infants. A prospecti...

AIMS To prospectively evaluate the iron nutritional status of preterm infants fed either a term (0.5 mg/dl iron) or preterm (0.9 mg/dl) formulas fortified with iron after hospital discharge. METHODS Healthy low birthweight preterm infants were randomly assigned into three groups at the time of hospital discharge. Group A were fed an iron fortified preterm formula (0.9 mg/dl iron) until 6 mont...
